Mouna Abbassy

Mouna Abbassy

CEO & Founder, izil Beauty

Mouna’s journey began with a deep-rooted pride in her heritage, a passion for natural beauty, and a purpose: to help women everywhere rediscover confidence through ritual. In 2012, Izil Beauty was born—named after the ancient Amazigh word for “pure,” a tribute to Mouna’s Berber roots and their time-honoured rituals.

She began by importing Morocco’s finest traditional formulas, offering them through small beauty kiosks. The response was powerful. Inspired by the love and trust these rituals received, Mouna deepened her commitment, studying Organic and Non-Organic Cosmetic Science at the UK Cosmetic Science Society.

Blending ancestral knowledge with modern science, she began to craft her own formulas - pure, purposeful, and proven. What began as tradition passed down became skincare reimagined. And so, Izil grew into a brand rooted in ritual and refined by science, guiding women back to themselves through beauty that’s sensory, soulful, and effective.

The success of Izil’s formulas led to an expanded range and the opening of Izil’s flagship store and spa at The Dubai Mall, a curated sanctuary inspired by Moroccan gatherings and the sacred self-care rituals of Mouna’s youth.

Today, Izil is one of the fastest-growing clean beauty brands in the GCC. Mouna has been named one of the Top 10 Women Behind Middle Eastern Brands (2023) and is a recipient of the 2015 Hadafi Women’s Entrepreneurship Award and the Cartier Women’s Initiative Award for Middle East & North Africa. Yet for Mouna, every accolade is a tribute, not just to her heritage, but to the women and communities who shaped her.

Through Izil, she continues to share the magic of Moroccan rituals, creating spaces, products, and experiences that honour the past, elevate the present, and empower women to rise. Her hope is to build more than a brand. She’s building a movement of women who feel rooted, radiant, and whole.
